Check out these eight Montessori inspired gift ideas for a one-year-old based on my son’s all time favorites!
All of these Montessori inspired gift ideas are open ended toys and are materials that are based on reality. I have personally purchased all of the materials and he uses these materials on a daily basis.
Gift Idea #1: The Gift of an Experience
The first gift idea is to give the child the gift of an experience. you can opt to purchase tickets to the zoo, a nearby farm, a swimming lesson, or even a mommy-and-me music class.
You don’t have to spend tons of money on this either, you can also get creative with this. One idea is to find a local park, pack some lunch and have a picnic at the park as a family.
The best gift we can give our children and others is the gift of quality time spent together experiencing something new.
Gift Idea #2: Books
Here are three of Leo’s favorite books. One of the things that these books have in common is that these books have images based on reality. I find that Leo gravitates to the books that have the “real” images more than the other books that he has.
#1: Baby Faces
Gift Idea #3: Galt Pop Up Toy
This Pop Up toy is one of Leo’s favorites! We purchased this one when he was about 9 months old and he loved taking the pegs out. Now that he is 11 months, he is able to place the peg inside the holes and push the pegs down to make them pop up.
This toy is great for kids to develop hand coordination, continue working on their pincer grasp, and learn how to match the colors.
Gift Idea #4: Drum
I was in the market for a small drum for Leo because I noticed he enjoyed to bang things on the floor. This drum had great reviews on Amazon and it did not disappoint.
We’ve had it for a month and it is shown to be very sturdy. The sound of the drum is nice to listen to and Leo plays with this every day.
Gift Idea #5: Schleich Wildlife Animal Figurines
Leo loves to learn about animals and I was so excited to introduce this Schleich set of animals to him. He loves these!
These animal figurines have great detail and they are made to last. Schelich also creates this farm animal set which I plan on purchasing as a Christmas gift.
Gift Idea #6: Zoo Animal Magnets
These animal magnets are great. We place these on our fridge and Leo loves to take these off and place them back on the fridge. Sometimes this buys me some time to finish up in the kitchen while Leo plays with the magnets.
Once Leo is a bit older, we can play matching games with the magnets and his Schleich animal figurines. Magdum also makes an Farm Animal set.
Gift Idea #7: Radio Flyer Classic Walking Wagon
This walker is another one of our favorites. We take Leo for daily strolls on it.
I love this walker because it has given Leo independence as he is learning how to walk. I wrote about the Montessori approach to walking in this post if you are interested in learning more.
Gift Idea #8: Pikler Triangle
We purchased this pikler triangle from Sprout and we are very happy with it. Leo loves to test his boundaries each day by climbing up the dowels. So far, he’s gotten to the third dowel.
Leo also uses it as a support when he is standing and even “hides” in there. I can tell, this will be a favorite for years to come.
